Henk van der Geest

11737798_10153421592485762_8505664676911711945_nHenk van der Geest is a lighting designer working in theatre and architecture, including exhibitions, museums and public space.

He worked for residential theatre companies as well as many temporary ensembles; lighting for dance, drama, opera and musical productions. He lit exhibitions in the Rijksmuseum, vanGogh Museum, Zuiderzeemuseum, Teylers Museum, Fries Museum and many more. Lately he is consulting museums like the van Gogh Museum in their transition to quality led lighting.

His credits includes architectural and cultural projects in a wide range from ambassy’s to palaces and private homes to public parks. And from small blackbox theatre to grand-scale opera.

He consulted on the renovated interior lighting in the Royal Palace in Amsterdam; worked on upgrading the lighting in the Ridderzaal -the assembly hall of the government in the Hague- and the new building for the world renowed architecture department of the university in Delft.

For the municipality of Amsterdam he created a vision for the nightscape lighting of the theatre district ‘the Leidseplein’ and realised new lighting at the renovated 1928 Olympic Stadium quarters in Amsterdam. For the municipal hospital in Alkmaar he collaborated in a team to include wellness lighting in polyclinical centers. With VPT he conducted research on energysaving equipment for the theatre.

Henk van der Geest founded instituut lichtontwerpen to create a place for lighting designers to do research as well as to receive coaching on their projects. As a tutor he is traveling the world to do presentations and workshops for a variety of participants, recently in HongKong and Taipei.
